The EKINOPS PM C1008MP family of modules are amongst the industries most flexible multiprotocol DWDM add drop multiplexers. These modules have the ability to multiplex any mix of 1GbE, 1G Fibre Channel, 2G Fibre Channel, 4G Fibre Channel, OC-12/STM-4 and OC-48/STM-16 up to to a total bandwidth of 10 gigabits per second. These modules have eight client ports which can be used as inputs for these different service types. All client ports are software programmable and can be reprogrammed to a different client service in the field, on the fly, without any effect on traffic being carried by other ports on the cards. The PM C1008MP comes in two variants. The PM C1008MPLH supports add-drop multiplexing (ADM) and uses standard FEC.
The flexibility of the EKINOPS PM C1008MPLH provides the end user with a number of advantages. First, enterprises and service providers can utilize these line cards without any need to understand or forecast the mix of different traffic types that will need to be supported in the future. Client ports can be programmed to the appropriate service type at the time the need for providing that service type arises. The flexibility of this module provides the ultimate economy in wavelength utilization for complex applications that involve multiple service types. This module aggregates many different service types onto a single 10G wavelength. Traditional DWDM multiplexers would require as many as 1 wavelength per service type.
The EKINOPS PM C1008MPLH module provides a second redundant line port for 50 ms line side redundancy. Protection using the redundant line port is based on loss of single as well as signal degradation.
The EKINOPS PM C1008MP family of modules can be used in conjunction with the PM 124 in order to efficiently aggregate lower rate traffic. The PM 124 allows the aggregation of 10/100 Ethernet, OC-3/STM-1, and OC-4/STM-12 into a single client port on the PM C1008MP modules.
Finally, in addition to the ability to aggregate multiple service types and rates, the PM C1008MPLH module offers an ADM capability. Multiple PM C1008MPLHs placed on a common span or ring can add and drop any mix of traffic from a single 10G wavelength on that span or ring. This can be done with a single PM C1008MPLH at each site at which traffic is to be added or dropped.
Also, in ring ADM applications, the EKINOPS PM C1008MPLH can provide 50 ms protection on a service by service basis.
The EKINOPS PM C1008MPLH module can be managed through SNMP or via the EKINOPS standard element level management interfaces, which include a Command Line Interface (CLI) and an EKINOPS java-based Graphical User Interface (GUI). The CLI is accessible via Secure Socket Shell (SSH) and Telnet remotely or via a local serial port locally on the management board.
Complete performance monitoring and management are provided, including laser shutoff andlocal and remote loopback, useful for maintenance and fault isolation.
Digital Diagnostics Management (DDM) is supported for SFP and XFP interfaces. This includes link status, transmit (TX) and receive (RX) signal power monitoring, and operational temperature, as well as manufacturer and transceiver model information essential for inventory management. A 10Mbps in-band Data Communications Channel (DCC) is embedded in the line side for remote management.
The EKINOPS PM C1008MPLH module offers SONET/SDH Performance counters for TDM servicesand RMON statistics for Ethernet services.
The EKINOPS PM C1008MPLH module is also supported by Celestis NMS, the EKINOPS advanced Network Management System.

Because of the flexibility of the PM C1008MP family of modules, they can be used for a multitude of applications. They are particularly useful in applications where multiple service types are necessary although of course, they can be used for single service type applications as well. Examples of applications requiring multiple converged service types include wireless backhaul, broadband aggregation, and business services.
For wireless back haul applications, as the industry moves from 2G to 3G and 4G, there will be a need to mix Ethernet and TDM services. For broadband backhaul, a mix of IP DSLAMs/DLCs and traditional TDM based DLCs/DSLAMs require a mix of TDM and Ethernet services.
Finally, for business services, one could encounter a mix of multiple service types including video, Ethernet, TDM, and Fibre Channel. With all of these applications, flexibility in traffic mix is critical. The ability of the PM C1008MP family of modules to support different service types in any mix on a single wavelength allows for service providers and enterprises to deploy these applications utilizing minimal network resources (wavelengths) without the need to anticipate what the mix of the different service types will be.
