Next Generation Optical Networking Company EKINOPS Expands into Asia

Ekinops, a provider of next generation optical transport, WDM (wavelength-division multiplexing) and aggregation solutions for service providers and enterprise networks, today announced its expansion into Asia, with a first office in Singapore.

Founded in 2003 by telecom and datacom industry experts, and backed by some of the industry's leading venture funds, EKINOPS currently services key clients internationally across multiple segments, from service providers to research networks and enterprise customers, including Global Crossing, Agarik (Bull Group), TelemaxX, the Boston Red Sox and the University of Nebraska.

Mr. Brédy, Chief Executive Officer of Ekinops, pointed out that “We have grown very successfully in Europe and in the U.S. but with Asia representing 25 to 30 percent of the global optical networking market, we see a tremendous and strategic opportunity for EKINOPS to expand our customer base into this very high-growth region."

Singapore’s strategic location, competitive and educated labor force, accessibility to transportation, and good legal framework made it a natural choice for Ekinops’ Asia Pacific base of operations.

Mr. Marc Olivier, a seasoned professional with more than 10 years experience in Asia, will lead Ekinops’ operations there. Mr. Olivier previously held senior executive positions with Level 3 Communications and BT, and over the last five years was BT sales director servicing the needs of carriers and service providers in Asia. Mr. Olivier not only knows the region well, he brings to EKINOPS a wealth of experience in marketing, sales development, and distribution. Mr. Olivier is a graduate of the ENST Paris, the leading telecom engineering and business school in France.

Mr. Olivier added, “Broadband growth and industry-wide all-IP transformation is driving the growth for large 10 Gbps and 40 Gbps WDM systems in metro, regional, and long haul infrastructure across the Asia Pacific region. We see this market growing sustainably at more than 20 percent annually. We believe that Asian customers will be equally enthusiastic about Ekinops’ next generation modular, flexible, and carrier class WDM platform, which will allow them to reduce substantially the cost of deploying and operating their optical network infrastructure."
